This Saturday we will be having our Emmaus House Christmas party and also participate in an advent spiral.
Come join us at 5:30pm on Saturday at the Emmaus House for our Christmas celebration and time of community. Please feel free to bring your favorite snack or drink to share.
After the party around 6:30pm we will head over to the advent spiral. This is very similar to a labryinth if you are familiar with that. This will be an opportunity to walk through your faith journey - whether you have been journeying for a while or are just beginning. It is a time to pray and reflect amidst our brokenness.
Part of the spiral symbolizes our responsibility to help others experience more of God. As a tangible way to symbolize these relationships you can bring an object with you to be used during the spiral. A few ideas/examples...
a broken twig - to represent a broken relationship
an egg - to represent the fragility of life and how easily it is broken
a chocolate - to represent the sweetness we would have them experience from God
a soft piece of cloth - to represent the comfort of God
bread - to represent the fullness of the body of Christ.
The list could go on
We hope to see you on Saturday at 5:30 for the party and 6:30 for the advent spiral. Feel free to email with any questions you may have.

Faith and Films Christmas Style
In honor of the holiday season...aka Christmas...our faith and film movie for the month will be Miracle on 34th Street. When Santa falls down drunk in the Thanksgiving Day Parade, reluctant Macy's supervisor Doris Walker (Maureen O'Hara) offers the job to a bearded Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn, who won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar) purporting to be the real Santa! During the Christmas season, he shares a flat with Doris' neighbor (John Payne), who has eyes for Doris. Kris hopes to unite the two while winning over Doris' skeptical 6-year-old daughter (Natalie Wood).
Join us Saturday evening at 5:30pm at the Emmaus House as we watch this Christmas favorite and discuss it's relation to our faith journey. Don't forget to bring your favorite snack.

Advent
This Sunday is the first Sunday of advent. Come join us Saturday night as we gather in community and talk about advent. 6:30pm at the Emmaus House.
Luke 21:25-36 (The Message)
25-26"It will seem like all hell has broken loose—sun, moon, stars, earth, sea, in an uproar and everyone all over the world in a panic, the wind knocked out of them by the threat of doom, the powers-that-be quaking.
27-28"And then—then!—they'll see the Son of Man welcomed in grand style—a glorious welcome! When all this starts to happen, up on your feet. Stand tall with your heads high. Help is on the way!"
29-33He told them a story. "Look at a fig tree. Any tree for that matter. When the leaves begin to show, one look tells you that summer is right around the corner. The same here—when you see these things happen, you know God's kingdom is about here. Don't brush this off: I'm not just saying this for some future generation, but for this one, too—these things will happen. Sky and earth will wear out; my words won't wear out.
34-36"But be on your guard. Don't let the sharp edge of your expectation get dulled by parties and drinking and shopping. Otherwise, that Day is going to take you by complete surprise, spring on you suddenly like a trap, for it's going to come on everyone, everywhere, at once. So, whatever you do, don't go to sleep at the switch. Pray constantly that you will have the strength and wits to make it through everything that's coming and end up on your feet before the Son of Man."
